BKB RULES

Here is the official BKB rules in history. The first couple are some legit rules sets from Bareknuckle Boxing associations across history. And the last two (BKB SlaughterSport) are my idea of what it could be.

London Prize Ring Rules
(prizefighting/bare-knuckle boxing is the original form of boxing)

  • Two men would fight without gloves or hand covering of any kind. No wrist wraps.
  • 30 seconds pause. Either fighter was allowed, at any time during the fight to take a knee for 30 seconds, during this time the opposing fighter was not permitted to attack and the resting fighter was allowed to regain his composure and continue.
  • Rounds. A round wents until a fighter’s knee touched the ground, and there was a 30 second break before the next. During the 30 seconds, each fighter must return to the middle of the ring and put his toe on a 3 foot by 3 foot square scratched in the center of the ring (called “Coming to Scratch”) or be declared the loser if failing to do so.
  • Rounds could therefore be of any length and carried on until one man was unable to continue. Some rounds lasted only seconds, some up to twenty minutes.
  • No limit to the number of rounds. Jem Smith and Jake Kilrain went 102 rounds to a draw to see who would challenge the world champion John L. Sullivan.
  • Kicking, biting and gouging were not allowed, and neither was hitting or grabbing below the waist. It was not allowed to strike a man or inflict damage once he was down apart from falling on him. But most other thing were.
  • Wrestling was an essential part. The opponent could be knocked or thrown to the ground, either by picking him up around the waist or by a popular move known as cross buttock. Having thrown an opponent to the floor it was allowed to fall on top of him as heavily as possible.
  • Wore tight and spiked shoes.
  • Fought outside in a dirt ring.

Gypsy "fair play" rules
(old tradition of fighting between rival families or clans)

  • No rounds. No time limits. They fight till someone can no longer fight, some fights have gone on for many hours. The fight only end when one fighter either cannot continue or “gives best” to his opponent.
  • 30 seconds. If a fighter is dropped then the count starts and the fallen fighter has 30 seconds in which to regain his composure, take to his feet and carry on. However Bartley Gorman stated in his biography that he had an onlooker counting to 10.
  • Two referees from different families.
  • No ring.
  • No holding, throwing, kicking, biting, gouging, hair pulling, hitting when your opponent is on the ground.
  • Hands wraps seems to be the norm.

Kimbo Slice Street Fight Rules

  • Bare knuckle. No wraps.
  • Only punching is allowed (no elbows, knees, kicks, etc.)
  • Stand up fighting only (no ground & pound or submissions)
  • No holding or wrestling with opponent is allowed
  • If knocked down you have 30 seconds to get up and continue fighting
  • The ways to win are by knockout, 30 second count out, or simply quitting

  • The Round Cage. Every BKB brawls take place inside a 14 foot diameter, 9 foot roof round cage with a cobbles floor.

  • The only way to win is by knock out. Which is a being unable to rise from a knock down within a timed count of 10 seconds
  • A brawler is considered down when he got one knee on the ground. Thus starting the timer for the count of 10 seconds.
  • There is no quitting, no surrender. If you want to quit, stay on the floor.
  • There is no ridiculous weight categories, no dope test, no rounds, no referee stoppage, no doctor stoppage.
  • You can brawl bare fists, taped fists, gloved fists. MMA gloves or boxing gloves.
  • You can dress as you want ( cow boy boots, work boots, barefoot, belt, jeans, T-shirt, shirtless, kimono, anything...). Elbow pads, knee pads, weightlifter belts, and even protective headgears are allowed ( but with a headgear, the crowd will boo you. It is considered unmanly to wear one in the BKB). You can wear a mouth piece and a jock strap if you want.
  • At least two fouls are tolerated. Rules are not strictly enforced. It's all at the discretion of the referee.
  • The "No Contest" rule. The referee can stop the brawl when both brawlers goes out of control using illegal actions.
  • The DQ rule. The referee can disqualifie a brawler after repeated fouls (at least three) or when a foul is used as the way to knock out an opponent.
The concept is simple: try to knock out your opponents inside the 10-minutes time frame.
